I was elated when I heard that new federal rules will force automakers to increase the gas mileage of the cars they manufacture. Over the next six years, the gas mileage of cars should increase by about 10 mpg to an average of 35.5 miles per gallon. The new national standards will help the economy, ecology, and consumers.
Many people think it’s about time that new rules were put into effect. Environmentalists believe this move will help diminish the amount of greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere. Officials also hope that consumers will save a lot of money at the gas pumps over time. I applaud the effort to make our world a better place!
