The building of dams and other obstacles along America’s streams has made it difficult for fish to swim upstream to spawn. Efforts by the government to solve the problem by building fish ladders have led to controversy. The structures are very expensive and there is little evidence of their effectiveness. There are many who believe there is a better way.

Many conservationists think that restoring the fish’s natural habitat would be a more effective way to solve the problem. They believe this would be cheaper and also provide habitat for a number of other animals who need space to live. I believe we should study the problem further and use facts to make the best decision.

Ever since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded last week, oil has been flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. The spill is estimated to be about 39 miles wide by 48 miles long. The spill has not yet reached land, but threatens huge areas of the coastline. Everyone is worried about what the effects of the disaster will have on the environment.

BP is making plans to contain the spill if the pipe cannot be fixed. The problem is that the spill is now so large it will be nearly impossible to clean up. The tides and wind will play a large role on what areas will be affected. I hope the crews working on the problem will do their best work now, a lot of people and animals depend on it!

I really like being a part of a large family. With all those relatives there is always something new happening. The latest news is that my niece Heidi is about to give birth again soon. This will be her second child and they believe it will be another boy. This will be a nice addition to the family. In celebration, I decided that some gifts were in order. The last time I visited Heidi I noticed a few things that she may need. She was definitely suffering from a shortage of Nursery Furniture. I thought I could rectify that situation easily and did so by ordering a new changing table. I believe she will get plenty of use out of that. Since she would now have two kids to worry about, I thought that buying the kids some Activity Sets would keep them busy and give her a break now and then.

Since we are a family that enjoys our activities, I thought that I would continue the tradition by purchasing some Toys and Games for the boys. I know the importance of keeping the kids busy and this would be a great way to do it. I love watching our family grow and am glad to be a part of it. Today is a day when every American should think about the world we live in. mother earth provides us all with everything we need to live and we should take care of her. Unfortunately, this has not always been the case. I believe we can do better. On this 40th anniversary of earth day, I believe we can make our voices heard.

It seems that as we learn more about our environment, we have come to the conclusion that we are doing a lot of harm to it. Our lands, oceans, and skies all show a sign of human activity and the past has shown that this is not a good thing. I hope we can all take a minute to reflect on our own impact on the planet and conceive ways to lesson our impact!

The weather is starting to warm and that brings to mind that it is nearly vacation time. Every year we like to get away in order to have some family time.
