A volcano erupted last Saturday in Reykjavik, Iceland. Although the eruption was small compared too many, scientist fear that it may trigger a larger one nearby at the Katla volcano. Many villages were evacuated as ash spewed into the air and molten lava flowed out of the ground. The gases were the main cause of concern.
Seismic activity is not new to Iceland. It sits atop a volcanic hot spot. Scientist have been measuring its activity for some years, but still cannot predict when an eruption will occur. The activity is caused by the movement of the earth’s plates which move causing lava to flow to the top.
