When I came to America, they put me back 2 years in school because I spoke very little English.  It didn’t take me long to learn though.  Then they started talking about World War II and someone named Hitler.  I had absolutely no idea who he was.  There was nothing talked about or taught about Hitler in Germany.

The kids in school would tease me by holding their hand up and saying “Hiel Hitler”.  They didn’t believe that I knew nothing of his attempt to take over the world but think about it.  Would your country proudly speak of someone like Hitler in their past?  I don’t think so.

I didn’t even know what a Nazi was either.  Once I learned, I understood why he was taken out of our history books or anything to do with our country at all.  He was not something to be proud of or remember.  He was pure evil.  He made me ashamed to tell anyone I was from Germany.
